We just threw 4 billion dollars and all of our credibility in the trash. Asian markets already began punishing us with a 1.3% drop in value of the Mexican Peso today.

Mexican people gave consent to the airport when they voted for Peña Nieto six years ago, if they didn’t want the airport they should’ve voted for Obrador in 2012. Who, by the way, did not have a project for an airport even if it’s been a topic of debate for twenty or thirty years.

Plus Mexican Citizens (and citizens of any country to be honest ) are too stupid to judge an infrastructure project of this scale. I think the new airport project has a lot of downsides, but it took me hours of study that I doubt even a single person participating in the referendum put in and I am still on the fence about it and I won’t pretend my opinion should be compared to that of experts .

I agree in essence with Obrador that the solution isn’t to have one huge airport, but now that we’re building the third largest airport in the world, stoping it has catastrophic consequences to the economy and the environment (because refurbishing Santa Lucia, and the impact of the two storey highway he’s promising shouldn’t go unoticed).
